Kieran Jordan, based in Boston, is recognized for her unique vision in Irish dance — with contributions as performer, teacher, choreographer, producer, director, and mentor to countless adult dancers.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she has been dancing since she was five years old. She has performed and taught locally and internationally for more than 30 years. Named “Boston’s first lady of contemporary Irish dance” (Boston Globe), Kieran pioneered the teaching of sean-nós and “non-competitive” Irish dance in New England. Her teaching and performance projects nurtured a vibrant Irish dance community in Boston for more than two decades.
With an MA from the University of Limerick in Contemporary Dance Performance, Kieran’s own dancing draws from deep tradition, as well as contemporary influences — and she brings a lyrical, playful, and expressive style to the rhythm and percussion of Irish dance. She has taught on the Irish Studies faculty at Boston College, and at festivals including Willie Clancy Summer School, Catskills Irish Arts Week, Augusta Heritage Center, and more.
This is Kieran’s fifth year as Dance Director for the Acadia Festival of Traditional Music and Dance. She is also a Board Certified Polarity Therapy practitioner, and she practices Polarity Therapy in Dorchester, MA and in Kennebunk, ME.
